violet fire Firstly, it must be said I have always instantly loved music that Steve Adams creates, in every permutation whether its Hofman, Broken Family Band or Singing Adams - & this album is no exception. It's a little less polished but no less an album because of it. It's heartfelt, raw and emotional - a brave serenade to a difficult break up. I've spent 16 years (crikey) listening to Steve Adams music and in an immense body of work to be immeasurably proud of - he is yet to disappoint me. Favorite track: You And Me.

about

This is really Steven Adams' first solo record, and it was originally released in 2005 on The Track & Field Organisation. It shouldn't be here. The Singing Adams was a completely different thing to Singing Adams.

It was recorded by Timothy Victor and the songs were performed by Steven with help from TV, Joel and Phil Morris (from the fine, underrated band Candidate), Gill Sandell (Emily Barker & The Red Clay Halo), Piney Gir and other pals (no one can remember). The cover features artwork by David Shrigley.

Steven says:

"This came about because I had some songs that didn't feel right for The Broken Family Band. I'd somehow managed to get some grant funding to spend however I liked, so I asked TV to help me make an album.

"It's a document of where my head was at that time; I'd just moved to London and was partying pretty steadily, holding down a job and playing a lot with my 'real' band.

"The recording sessions were all done in houses, and the whole experience was a joy. If something went wrong, we tried to incorporate it into the track. So it's a mess, but I'm very fond of it.

"A while after it was released we formed a band called The Singing Adams, with Steven and Tim singing, Howard Monk on drums and Michael Wood on bass. Michael ended up playing in Singing Adams, WHICH WAS A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT BAND".
